Energy drains and creating space

By Andrea Kartika Deierlein

Over the years, our garage became the transit space for every item that we didn’t need, want, or deal with anymore.

It took us over two years to clear clutter, arrange what needed to be sorted, let go of what didn’t serve us any longer. As the process dragged on, it became more draining. I can’t tell you the relief I felt when we were finally done… and here’s why:

The garage was something that needed to get done, but I was afraid to deal with. It was this permanent unchecked box on my to-do list that ran in the background of my mind, reminding me of its existence every time I passed it. It was something that needed to be addressed, but I procrastinated on.

Things and feelings that need to be addressed, but aren't, can become energy drains. Just like open apps running in the phone background draining the battery, taking up energetic bandwidth.

Did you know that unfinished business and unprocessed emotions, such as frustration, anger, worry or fear, drain precious lifeforce energy?

When energy is drained, it needs to be replenished. When energy is cluttered, it needs to be cleared. When energy is stuck, it needs to moved. Some refer to the process of releasing as “clearing energy blocks.” I prefer to call it “creating space.”

During a Reiki session, the pure flow of energy is realigned within the body. Imagine that it’s like a shower washing away impurities and strengthening the flow of energy. That’s why I also refer to Reiki sessions, whether you receive Reiki from another person or share it with yourself during Reiki Self-Care, as energetic hygiene. If you need a quick Reiki refresher or reset, listen to my 6-minute Reiki Shower meditation.

May you experience vitality, peace and calm – today and every day.
