Did you know that time is a form of energy, too?
The truth is, everything takes time.
We know it takes 4 years to complete a college degree.
2-3 years for an advanced degree.
And anywhere from 2-5 years for a promotion.
We give ourselves the time for these accomplishments, because these time frames are widely accepted--we know completing college doesn’t happen in 3 days, 3 weeks, or even 3 months.
What society doesn’t acknowledge though...
...is that self-care works the same way.
I believe that Reiki gives us powerful tools for self-care, but the truth is that using these tools once doesn’t provide an overnight miracle.
(It’s like going to the gym—go for one session and yes, you will likely feel an effect. But to build muscle, you need to go consistently.)
I’m sharing this with you because in order to take care of ourselves, we need to take the time, make the time, find the time.
We exert discipline and patience – and allow time to take time, and, in turn, give ourselves what we need.
If you’re like most of my clients, you care for others, you give others time. Time for your children. Time for your colleagues. Time for your family. Time for friends. Time for causes you care about.
But I hope that you ALSO give yourself the gift of time – without being forced by your body to do so.
The time YOU need.
Time to rest.
Time to relax your internal pressure cooker.
Time to restore inner balance to avoid overwhelm.
Because THAT’S how you build reserves for the tough times, manage stress and anxiety, ride the waves of change, and navigate uncertainty.
It’s like making a deposit, to build an energy reserve and draw from it when you need it.
When my dad passed away this summer and I had to travel back and forth to Germany, I could draw from my energy reserves to get me through what needed to be done.
But I’m not going to lie, when everything was completed and all the traveling was done, Covid got me. And after two months of going at full speed, I was forced to slow down, to feel my feelings, and was given time….
Time to process.
Time to breeeathe.
To exhale.
To rest and recover. Because we’re human beings and not a human doings – and energy reserves need to be filled up again.
