When was the last time you took an audit of the experts, personalities, and “influencers” that you follow? Whether you are aware of it or not, they shape your definition of success, and therefore, where you put your time, energy, and money.
It’s very easy to get swept up in information overload, which for some people can contribute to anxiety. At least, that’s what I observed creeping up in myself, so I decided to remove all social media apps from my phone recently… and it’s such a relief. I want to create my life and not consume other people’s versions of theirs.
Think about it… whenever we follow an external metric of success, comparing ourselves with those who have accumulated more [fill in the blank with what resonates with you], we risk losing the connection with our deeper, authentic self.
For some, this creates a pressure to hustle… a sense of feeling that who we are or what we own is not good enough.
This week, as you go about your internet surfing, email newsletter reading, video watching and podcast listening, I encourage you to notice the kinds of values that are influencing you.
If you’re interested in what led me to my journey to start Thrive Reiki seven years ago on Feb. 1, 2016 (I can’t believe it’s been 7 years!), here’s a recent podcast conversation I had with the lovely Ari from Made of Mettle.
Reiki has taught me to work with myself, instead of against myself.
The world is constantly giving us definitions of success and how life should be. Imagine how life could be when you connect daily to your source of well-being and listen to your body.
If we can each define success in a deeper, more meaningful way, then all of us can be lifted up. All of us can succeed… in being human… and being ok with it… no matter what life throws our way.
