Modern psychology is now confirming that deep happiness tends to arise from dedication to the process of one’s life, rather than attachment to specific results.
But letting go of attachments to specific results can be hard. So very hard.
Working with Reiki has been teaching me the concept of letting go. Instead of placing the focus on a specific result, I remind myself to place my attention and energy to what is, right here, right now. To trust that what is best for me will occur and then allow that to happen.
It sounds so simple but is so difficult. Especially in this world, where there is so much noise, there are so many distractions, where it is so easy to be a human doing and often challenging to be a human being. But becoming present, just for today, just for this moment, just for this breath, can be the answer.
If I ever find myself thinking, “I just have to get this done,” I realize that I have lost touch with becoming present with that activity.
It’s not about “getting something done”, especially when I try to slow down, take a pause or breath. It is an opportunity given to me by life to practice mindfulness, to become present, in that very moment, even when I’m loading the dishwasher. By focusing on the present moment in everything I do, I can find a moment to connect with myself.
