One of life’s most important skills

I hated to admit this...

...but the truth is that stress is part of life. It just is.

That’s why a core part of my work focuses on developing and maintaining resilience. For my clients and for myself. It’s one of the most impactful gifts that Reiki has given me.

Merriam Webster defines resilience as an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change. Life and sh*t happen. You can never really know when something will happen to challenge your calm.

In the book, Reiki: A Self-Practice To Live in Peace with Self and Others, Elise Brenner, PhD and Nancy Spatz, MD, write: “Resilience is not only reacting to challenges after they occur. Resilience involves purposefully building our own inner strengths, reserves, and capacities to feel courageous and whole despite disappointments, struggles, and social forces beyond our control. Resilience is not solely about claiming our inner qualities and wisdom, but also connecting with wisdom that lies in others.”

Whether you receive a Reiki session or learn to practice Reiki on yourself, it’s an opportunity to tap into a resource that encourages balance, connection, and peace. My clients, who’ve worked with me long-term, find that when things don’t go as planned, they can choose to:

  • Listen to their bodies and connect with their inner GPS
  • Tune into their inner strength and wisdom
  • Remember a sense of safety and stability knowing that they have tools to face the unexpected, and that they will survive – perhaps even thrive

But there’s a caveat: Resilience doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of consistently committing to yourself.

Here’s what Veronica shared this with me after three sessions:

“In the beginning, I wasn't sure what to expect as far as how I'd react to/benefit from Reiki, but I can confidently say that it will be a part of my wellness routine for the rest of my life.

It's worth the investment -- you just have to commit.

There are many ways to commit to yourself – and I hope you choose to commit to yourself, one day at a time.

May you find moments of BALANCE, CONNECTION and CALM - today and every day.

P.S. Know someone who could use a little bit more resilience and benefit from Reiki? Why not share this blog with them?
