Have you heard of the Japanese formula for happiness and longevity? Ikigai?
Ikigai is a concept that stands for "reason for being".
I like to think of it as a person's why. Their guiding light, inner compass or purpose.
Over the years, I learned that most of my cliencts are driven by a deep passion to help others. They want to make a difference. To lead by example. Their life to be meaningful. This serves as their lighthouse when the storms of life happen, and personal challenges feel insurmountable.
They turn to tools and techniques that build and grow their resilience. They choose calm over chaos. They ask for help... because they know that when they restore balance in their own self, they are also helping others.
Yet, being human, it's soooo easy to get knocked off center. To get swept away by the tsunami of fear and worry. By the what-if's and the if-only's. But when you have a guiding light, you'll always know how to get back home to your core.
If you don't know where to start, begin by quieting the chatter in your mind. Find ways to quiet the noise, and silence the distractions. Clear clutter. Organize your sock drawer. Go for a walk. Turn off the phone. Take a break from scrolling on social media. Then ask yourself these questions, and listen to the first thing that comes to mind (because the soul knows):
- What is your why?
- What is it that makes you feel like the best version of yourself?
- When are you most at peace?
- What brings you joy?
